Wellness programme for staff  

It can be said that the workplace is one of the most important settings affecting the physical, mental and economic well being of workers and in turn their families, communities and society.

It therefore follows that the workplace is one of the best places to invest in the health of employees in order to further well-being and boost morale. Health promotion attempts to improve the health of an individual or community. Health education through information-giving, advice, support and skills training is a prerequisite to health promotion. Empowerment, equity, collaboration and participation are the means and methods of achieving health promotion. Health promotion also fosters an ability to cope with illness or disease.

The “Window of Health” Program focuses on the common ailments affecting employees in the workplace in South Africa. The program runs on a continuous basis throughout the year.

Sister Jean McEvoy who is a highly qualified nursing sister visits the firm on a monthly basis. This allows all employees on a completely voluntary basis to be screened for the following diseases in the most confidential manner:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Tuberculosis
  • HIV
  • Anxiety and Depression

Any employee requiring specialized medical care or opinion is referred to Dr Paul Timp.

Educational matter concerning these and other commonly encountered ailments is presented to staff on a regular basis.

The “Window of Health Program” is designed to be unobtrusive and operate independently with complete confidentiality.

 A healthy and happy workforce is vital and Spoor & Fisher is determined to transform the workplace into a health promoting environment, in which human potential, including health potential can flourish.
