Overview of Firm

Spoor & Fisher has been a specialist IP firm since its formation in 1920.  Since then it has developed into a firm of over 50 lawyers and IP specialists providing solutions across the full spectrum of intellectual property.

We assist our clients in obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights throughout the world through our close relationships with overseas intellectual property agents and practitioners. We have close ties with registries and associates throughout the African continent.

Our focus has always been on building a firm that can rival the best in the world. As with any professional services firm, our capabilities are built around our team of professional advisors. Apart from the strength created by the size of our team and the diversity of skills that we offer, our team has:

  • a number of partners who have joined us after practising with distinction in Europe and North America;
  • a proud tradition of having been involved in many of the leading patent, trade mark and copyright cases in South Africa;
  • authored many of the leading textbooks on intellectual property law in South Africa; and
  • maintained its expertise at the leading edge of science and technology while expanding into new, exciting areas such as biotechnology and nanotechnology.
