Canteen enterprise initiative

Spoor & Fisher has embarked on a project which will see the firm transferring its in-house canteen operation to the canteen personnel, thus creating a business enterprise with 100% black female ownership. The initiative will include providing skills transfer to the canteen personnel, with external service-providers focusing on catering and management respectively. This will see a chef / caterer on site one day a week, bringing the staff up to speed regarding the principles of bulk catering and sharpening their culinary skills. On the managerial side of the operation, training will also be provided by a service-provider specialising in small enterprise development. The overall aim is to equip the canteen personnel with a kitchen, front of floor facilities, a sound canteen management infrastructure and all the skills required to provide a first class service and to succeed as an independent enterprise.
