Zimbabwe- Joining the Madrid Protocol

Zimbabwe deposited its instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol on 11 December 2014, which will enter into force on 11 March 2015.

Zimbabwe has not, however, amended its domestic law to give effect to International registrations, and although we understand that this is expected shortly, this is not likely to occur before 11 March 2015. Without such amendment, International registrations designating

Zimbabwe should not be enforceable in that territory. Consequently, until Zimbabwe attends to the amendment of its law, we would not recommend that trade mark owners rely on International registrations for protection.
