Navigating the Intellectual Property Regime in Ethiopia

The new trade mark law entered into force in Ethiopia on 24 December 2012, creating a new regime for the registration and enforcement of trade mark rights. In this article, Wayne Meiring explains the background to the new law, the changes and improvements that it brings as well as the process for existing applications and registrations. He also outlines some of the IP issues to be aware of generally, when investing in Ethiopia.
