Lawyers Swopped Their Robes for Overalls to Build Houses for Three Families in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni

After successfully building a house for Alice Kutu and her family in January this year, Spoor & Fisher extended a challenge to other firms in the legal community to join us in building houses and to contribute towards the upliftment of communities in the Gauteng area.

Two law firms, Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes (STRB) and Werksmans Attorneys, responded to the challenge and together, under the auspices of the Gauteng Legal Community, we built three houses for the Letiya, Nyathi and Sibiya families. The law firms worked in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and its partner KAVOSHS (Katlehong South Vosloorus Self-Help Housing Scheme), who supplied the building materials and the building expertise.

In a ceremony which took place on 5 August 2007, the three families received the keys to their new homes. They also received clothes, household goods, trees and a vegetable patch which were donated by the staff and partners of Spoor & Fisher, as well as other corporate sponsors.

The Gauteng Legal House Build will now become an annual event and more firms have expressed an interest in joining us for the next build.
