Spoor & Fisher voted top IP firm in South Africa by MIP World IP Survey 2008

For four consecutive years, Spoor & Fisher has received a prestigious South African award as the country’s leading specialist law firm, and now its ranking has been confirmed in a respected world-wide poll.

Now in its 12th year of publication and with more than 8 000 readers across the globe, Managing Intellectual Property is the leading international magazine for IP owners.  Each year the publication conducts a comprehensive, five-month long survey of the world IP market, which in turn provides a unique perspective on IP practice – based on the experiences of hundreds of clients and practitioners from the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, Europe and Africa.  The results of this survey are collated to produce a list of global rankings, divided according to territory and with categories including leading firms, contentious cases, prosecution and outstanding achievement.  The top performers in each territory and category are then short-listed for the annual global awards.

As well as producing the firm rankings, the MIP survey also canvassed the market to identify particular firms, corporations and individuals excelling across the board in terms of their IP expertise.  In the rankings, Spoor & Fisher achieved Tier 1 status for both trade marks and patents – and its achievements and contribution to the industry in the territories of Europe and Africa earned the firm a MIP Global Award.

The awards ceremony took the form of a black tie event held at Claridges in London, with more than 300 guests from all over the world attending.

“Thanks to globalisation and the very nature of intellectual property, no-one can afford to adopt a parochial attitude – and Spoor & Fisher strives to meet and exceed international standards in every aspect of its work,” commented Chris Bull, Spoor & Fisher’s managing partner, “Winning an MIP Global Award is a good indication that we are on target, as judged by our peers and clients throughout the world.  This is an accolade that can be shared by the entire Spoor & Fisher team, and we will certainly make every effort to maintain our top tier status.”
